A NEW KIND OF MARKET GARDENING
Grow Bristol is a new urban farming enterprise developing innovative and sustainable ways of growing food in the city for the benefit of all its inhabitants and the wider world. We are creating a new kind of market gardening with vegetable and fish production in city spaces not normally suited to agriculture.
Our aims are to: produce fresh, local, sustainable food all year round; educate and engage with people to increase knowledge and wellbeing; and promote enterprise and develop employment opportunities. We call this approach ‘smart urban farming’; where innovation and business meet to bring environmental, economic and social benefits.
Grow Bristol’s wider vision is that urban agriculture contributes to making Bristol a healthier, happier and more prosperous and sustainable city.

OUR PRODUCE
OUR GREENS
With our urban growing systems we can produce fresh, ultra-local and sustainably- produced microgreens, baby-leaf salad and herbs…and we can produce them all-year round! Greens are healthy and tasty and an important part of any diet…providing vitamins like Vitamin A, B and C; minerals like iron, calcium and potassium; and other good stuff like antioxidants, folic acid, and beta-carotene. We are growing pea shoots, radish and coriander leaf, micro leek and much, much more…in fact whatever is requested.
OUR FISH
Essential to our urban ‘aquaponic’ growing system are the fish that help to provide the nutrients for the plants (and get clean water back in return)…and also provide food for us. Tilapia are very common around the world as a farmed fish. We farm them to high environmental and welfare standards and our closed-loop system avoids the negative environmental impacts associated with other forms of fish farming. Tilapia are omnivorous, so we can use a variety of organic and sustainable food for them which doesn’t include other fish caught from the ocean. Tilapia is a tasty, low-calorie and versatile fish for cooking and is slowly becoming widely available in the UK as a sustainable choice and an alternative to species like cod.
PEA SHOOTS
Pea shoots are the young, tender leaves of the pea plant and have soft stems and curly tendrils. Our pea shoots have a delicious pea flavour and are very nutritious, being rich in Vitamin A and Vitamin C and a good source of fibre and protein. Another great thing about pea shoots is in their versatility in cooking and preparation: they are perfect for a stir-fry, steamed or baked as part of a meal (great with fish, for example), or served raw in a mixed salad. At Grow Bristol we can’t stop munching on them once picked!
MICRO LEEK
Our leek microgreen is particularly recognizable by the elegant black seed on its tip. With a vibrant and powerful onion flavour and a hint of wild garlic and cucumber this little beauty will stimulate your taste buds. Used as an onion substitute in most dishes it is also great in a salad or sandwich to bring you the nutrients that you need in a tasty way, including vitamins A, B, C, and iron.
MICRO CORIANDER
Our featured microherb…and if you like coriander you will love this! Our micro coriander has a more intense flavour than the fully-grown version together with its own special aromatic flavour. It has slender little leaves, some of which have a spherical brown coriander seed attached at the tip. To add to the taste sensation, micro coriander contains folic-acid, riboflavin, niacin, and vitamins C, A, and K and is rich in antioxidants and dietary fibre. It is of course used widely in dishes in Asian cuisine and across the world and can add a particular zing to many a salad and garnish.
SUPER MICRO GREEN MIXED SALAD
A special mix of our greens bringing you a fresh, tasty and colourful salad that is bursting with nutrients and general healthiness and flavour. With a base of yummy pea shoots and lively radish leaf, each salad will include a mix of our best microgreens available on the day from our range; leek, coriander, red cabbage, sunflower leaf and more. Can be eaten in the raw, drizzled with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, or used as a side salad for your favourite dish.
SPICY MICRO RADISH LEAVES
Our special mix of micro radish leaves is….very special! Micro radish tastes on first bite like eating into a radish and then you get that peppery kick. As well as the fresh and strong taste the colours of green, red and pink brighten up any salad mix and mix in just as much as you like to take the edge off but keep the wonderful taste. Adds spice to soups, salads and sandwiches and great as a garnish for meats, fish and seafood. Microgreen radish contains antioxidants, calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and vitamins E, A, C and K.
WHEATGRASS
Our wheatgrass is grown from organic seed and is ready to juice for those fans of this ‘superfood’ and you will get up to eight 30ml shots of juice from each tray (you need the right kind of juicer, mind). Wheatgrass juice is considered by many to provide a healthy and detoxifying addition to one’s diet and when mixed with other fruit and vegetable juices will give an added vitamin hit. Wheatgrass is a complete food and contains protein, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and vitamins E, C and B12.
SUNFLOWER SHOOTS
Our sunflower shoots have solid and fleshy leaves giving a fresh taste with a hint of citrus flavour. Delicious on their own or in salads, sandwiches or juiced. These greens are a rich source of chlorophyll, high in vegetable protein, B complex vitamins, vitamin E, potassium, iron, calcium and magnesium and contain plenty of healthy fatty essential acids.
